SUMMARY:Progressive Farm to Historic House Museum: Rose Hill Mansion
DESCRIPTION:Historic Geneva’s Executive Director\, Kerry Lippincott\, will share the story of preserving Rose Hill Mansion. She will look at how the house was restored and became a National Historic Landmark. \nOnce a working farm\, at least fourteen different families called Rose Hill home between 1809 and 1965. Since 1968\, the mansion has been operated as a historic house museum. Kerry will tell the story of the many people who have lived and worked on the property and examine how the site transitioned from a private home and farm to a museum. \nThe program series will be held at the Geneva History Museum at 543 South Main Street in Geneva and is open to the public. There is a suggested donation of $5 to support our programming. \n2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Historic Geneva is commemorating the anniversary with exhibits\, programs\, and blog articles. “Progressive Farm to Historic House Museum: Rose Hill Mansion” is part of the 250th commemoration.

DESCRIPTION:Join Historic Geneva for a special behind-the-scenes tour of Rose Hill Mansion. These tours are not the same as the regular tour. They are an opportunity for visitors to see and learn about areas of the house not usually accessible to visitors\, including the basement and belvedere (the square tower on the roof).\nAdmission for the tour is $12 for adults\, $10 for seniors\, $8 for college students with ID\, and $6 for children 10-18. The tour is recommended for adults and children 10 years and older.\nPlease be advised that there are many stairs to climb and some confined spaces included in the tour. Because of these limitations\, space on the tour is limited\, and advance tickets are required. The tour lasts about 90 minutes

Learn how the Swan family and other Genevans participated. \nJuly 25: The Workers of Rose Hill\nThe Swans did not live at Rose Hill alone. There were workers who cooked and cleaned for the family. Others tended to the grounds\, animals\, and crops. Discover the lives of Rose Hill’s domestic workers and farm laborers. \nAugust 29: A Taste of Rose Hill\nAt Rose Hill animals and produce were raised for market and meals. Explore the diverse foods enjoyed by the Swan family. Along with farm products\, see what was available for purchase at local stores. \nSeptember 19: Mourning Customs of the 1860s\nDuring the 1800s\, illness and death were a part of everyday life. DESCRIPTION:Join curator John Marks for a walking tour of Geneva’s Italian Neighborhood. Learn how this neighborhood got its name and how it became associated with Geneva’s Italian community. Explore the history of the barbershops\, restaurants\, and other businesses that served the community and became Geneva landmarks\, some of which still operate today. Participants should meet at the corner of Humbert Street and Avenue E. Parking is available in the lot by Club 86. \nThe tour will run rain or shine\, but will be cancelled in the event of thunderstorms or heavy downpours. The cost is $5 per person.
